Why “Steel is Real”

February 7th, 2010 | Comments (0) | post by Mike

I still remember my first ride on a "real" steel bike.  It was a 2008 Redline 925 single speed.  We bought it for Erin so she'd have a road bike to ride with me.  I owned a Cannondale Capo with an aluminum frame and carbon fork.  We went out riding one day and half way through the ride we decided to switch so we could feel each other's bikes.  That was the last time Erin technically ...

Upgrades That Matter

January 31st, 2010 | Comments (1) | post by Mike

If we lived in a perfect world and were all rich, we'd go into the bike store, get measured and have a custom bike welded for us.  That way the bike will fit you perfectly brand new.  Since most of us do not have that luxury, we are left with buying "off the shelf" bikes with pre-selected sizes.  The bike manufacturers do the best they can, but every riding style and body is different.  This ...

Ode to my Hoboken Bike

I switched my single speed to fixed a ...

Stock saddles are rubbish.  Any veteran cyclist will tell you that they'll replace the stock saddle before their cheeks even touch it.  Bike manufacturers are already up against a tight budget to build bikes these days, and they certainly aren't going to splurge on a saddle for you.

After my 5th or 6th uncomfortable ride on my stock saddle, I had had enough.  I began my search for the ...

Greetings From the Bike Addict

Many people ask me, "How did you get into biking?"  That's a good question considering I walk everywhere with a Bicycling Magazine and consider every minute I'm not on my bike a wasted one. Perhaps it's also a good question since I have 3 bikes to my name and am always on the lookout for number 4.  It's an awesome question for someone who considers the biggest upgrade on their car to be the ...
