New Year, New Resolutions

Apologies to anyone who might have been let down by our lack of posts recently. Mike and I certainly fell off the blogging wagon with the holidays! And with the frigid temps outside lately, we haven’t been thinking about biking. But just a few updates now and then we’ll get back on a semi-normal schedule!

We went to Texas for Christmas and even though we were only there for 5 days, it seemed like a great idea to find two beater bikes on Craigslist to keep down there. My Mom has had some bad experiences on bikes but we actually inspired her to try again. That in itself was reason enough to get a bike for her to play around on. It was interesting to see the variation of what was available in Texas, versus NJ. Lots of overpriced bikes for sure!

On our very last full day there (my birthday), we managed to touch base with a bike flipper near us who had a “bunch of bikes” available. Mike did a quick call with the guy, who had such a thick Texas accent he actually had MIKE drawling along with him! We got directions and dragged my parents along with us, with them grumbling about “the things you guys make us do”. They were slightly nervous about the “whole Craigslist thing” but by the end of it, my Dad was exchanging business cards with the guy and making fishing plans. Gotta love the internet!

So although the bikes were a little roughed up, we managed to get two solid options for just $160! A tall, sexy maroon Nishiki which Mike, my Dad and I can all ride and a little, cute Raleigh for my Mom. Sadly, we only had time for a quick spin before the light faded and then had to jump on a plane the next day…but I can’t wait to get back to fix them up! Picture soon!

And then on Jan 2nd, we teamed up with Knapp’s Cyclery for a yoga and indoor cycle training session. It was an absolute blast and certainly kicked everyone’s butts! It was a great way to not only stretch your comfort levels but also learn your strengths and weaknesses! Thanks to Emiliya for being a truly awesome yoga instructor. She customized the 90 min session to the cyclist’s body and wow did we all have some tight T1s, shoulders and necks!

We’ll be offering one more session with Knapp’s in Feb, so if you missed this one, definitely sign up! It’ll be an alternate yoga instructor but I’m sure it’ll be awesome.
